Inspired in Palermo's 'Ospedale degli Innocenti' by Brunelleschi, together with the regulations regarding orphans in Italy, I have designed a kid's hamlet inhabited by orphans and their carries with areas of interaction with the community, learning center, health center and cafeteria.
The proposal is set by fragments of two kinds; some interacting with the recycled existing buildings on site and others having a crucial relationship with the ground. Their interior distribution and materiality are defined by the activity taking place and the appropriate climatology for their best performance. Using irrigation water reservoirs and the underground for cooling purposes also connecting to green public piazzas.
Presenting what I consider key ingredients for sustainable living; light, wind, ground and water. Playing with the existing and the new when working with traditional methods and local materials, implementing new technologies.
